This was the second of the images taken that led to this pandemic project of mine. Two weeks after photographing the NeoWise Comet was the Perseid Meteor Shower. I approached a local Amish neighbor to ask if I could photograph his barn. He was more than amenable. But what to do about seeing the barn? My previous image of the comet with my neighbors farm was lit by yard flights, but this being an Amish farm there was no light to be had. That’s when the idea struck, why couldn’t I just scale up painting with light to the size of a barn. This was my test case for that idea. Happily not only did it work well, but I actually captured a few meteors. I have tried many a time to capture meteors, generally without success; the last time I tried, out of over 650 images, there was only one meteor partially peeking out from behind a tree… grrrrrr!
In my more than twenty-five years of being a commercial photographer I have seen images printed on almost every single substrate imaginable. And in that time I have never seen prints that look as stunning as these aluminum prints. They come alive in a way that I did not think possible. As one gallery owner I showed these to exclaimed, “It is like looking out a window!” They are truly unique in the way they shine when well lighted. So when you buy one of these prints, please make sure to light them generously!
